The Story of Sinor: History & Background

Sinor, also called Shinor (formerly Senapur/Sainyapur), is a small town in Vadodara District, Gujarat, India. Situated on the banks of River Narmada, it is known as the birthplace of one of the most prolific Gujarati writers, Ramanlal Vasantlal Desai. It is also believed that Sayajirao Gayakwad visited Sinor and met Shree Lallubhai Zaverbhai Patel of Bhekhada Village. Natives in this village speak Gujarati as their first language.

People living here are mostly from Hindu and Muslim communities and there is also presence of Jain communities. Village is physically divided in various small areas called "Faliyas" in local language. The main Faliyas include Busa Faliya, Dev faliya, Ranavas, Ramji mandir, Adhibagh, Charbagh, Nani Bhagol, Timba Faliya, Rabarivad, Nagarwada, Popat Sheri, Machhivad and Bhatt Sheri.

The town is also famous for its bands, which are mostly active in local ceremonies as well as in ceremonies held in nearby villages. The bands include Shamshad Band, Bashir Band, Makbul Nizami Band, Hindustan Band, and Master Kalu Band. The town is also known for Kotha, a sour fruit similar to a fig.

There are many temples on the bank of Narmada river, some of them are Ramji Mandir (Ganesh Mandir), Bhandareshvar Temple, Sai Baba Temple, Hanumanji Temple, Rohineshvar Temple, and Krashneshvar Temple. It is also near Angareshwar Mahadev temple at Malsar. There are many old and historical Derasar in the town as well. Another newly constructed beautiful Derasar sits on the bank of river Narmada. Two old historical bridges also present here, which are said to be constructed under the guidance of Sayajirao Gaekwad III the former King of Vadodara and it is known as "Jhulto Pool" which means swinging bridge.

A narrow-gauge railway line connects Sinor with Karjan (NH8) and proceeds from there to Dabhoi.

The town is quoted as the birthplace of the main character in a fiction titled Sita's Curse by Sreemoyee Piu Kundu.

Currently, Malsar-Asha bridge is under construction at Malsar near Sinor.

The Beauty of Sinor

What people mean when they call Sinor beautiful is usually the setting itself - the land, water and sky that put the place on maps. The light does most of the work: low-latitude light keeps greens deep and skies dramatic; the difference between hours, not seasons, drives the look. The seasons restyle everything around it - each season repaints it - plan the visit around the colour you want in your photos. And the beauty compounds with context: with 8 other verified places nearby, the Sinor area reads as one continuous landscape rather than a single viewpoint, which is worth more than any filter on the photos you take here.

Getting There

Sinor sits at 21.9112, 73.3397 in Sinor, India. Most visitors reach it by car, regional rail or local transit; pin the coordinates above rather than only the name - Sinor names repeat across regions, and rural entries often lack street addresses.

The nearest postal locality is Sinor (391115), which is what local directions and navigation apps will reference.

Best Time to Visit

Late spring to early autumn (May to September) brings the warmest and most reliable conditions across India. Shoulder months just before and after that window trade a little weather for noticeably lower prices and thinner crowds.

Sinor Season by Season

  • Summer (Jun-Aug) - peak season: the warmest, longest days and everything open, which also makes it the priciest and busiest window
  • Autumn (Sep-Nov) - shoulder season: crowds drain away, the light turns photographic, and lodging rates typically fall
  • Winter (Dec-Feb) - off-season: cheapest beds and empty viewpoints, but check for closures, snow or rain before committing
  • Spring (Mar-May) - rebuild season: wildflowers, newborn wildlife and reopened facilities - the best balance if the weather holds

Things to Do

Planning what to actually do at Sinor comes down to the setting it sits in:

  • Arrive with the exact coordinates (21.9112, 73.3397) pinned in your maps app — rural place names repeat across states
  • Give the site one unhurried hour before adding anything else to the day
  • Pair it with the nearest named attraction on this page to make a full loop
  • Chain the stop with what is nearby — see the list below before fixing your day route

None of this needs a rigid schedule - the honest pattern at Sinor is one anchor at the nearest anchor town, one longer stop, and the rest of the time left for whatever looks better from the car window. That flexibility is what separates a good half-day from a rushed one.

A Perfect Day in Sinor

Morning (start early). Have breakfast at Sinor and roll out before mid-morning - the light is softer, parking is open, and Sinor is at its quietest before the day-trippers arrive. Give the main stop its full due first rather than saving it for later.

Midday. From Sinor, Rājpīpla is only 17 km away - pair the two rather than driving home for lunch; a picnic beats a reservation near most of these spots.

Afternoon. Keep going to Sankheda (38 km) if the group still has legs; it is the standard second half of this loop.

Golden hour. End at the main viewpoint, waterfront or main street as the light drops; this is the hour Sinor is genuinely famous for locally, and it costs nothing.

Evening. Sleep at Sinor unless the road out is long - leaving at dusk is the one mistake that can flatten an otherwise perfect day.
